ASPIRE Athlete Of The Week For Oct. 4: Emi Trost

CANNON FALLS, Minn. (WCCO) -- Emi Trost excels for Cannon Falls cross country – she's been ranked No. 1 in Class A all year – and yet she also thrives in the classroom.

But this week's ASPIRE Athlete of the Week doesn't even attend her local high school.

"There are probably five to eight other home school people on our track team, cross country team," the senior said. "So it's been really cool like, all of the people here in Cannon have been really accepting of home schoolers."

The other areas of Emi's life include singing and volunteering at church, taking care of animals like her cows, and working on 4H projects.

She's now figuring out where she will go to college next year.

"I've done a lot of leadership stuff with my team," she said. "I was a captain in 10th grade for cross country," she said. "And this is my third year of being a captain, so that's really neat that my team trusts me and trusts my leadership."

Her idea of leadership is finding what she can do to help others.

"She'll get done running a race, and she'll win by a few minutes," coach Ben Schopp said. "She'll run to the next viewing station or to the next finish line, to cheer on her teammates, to encourage them to do their best."
