5 Minnesota Breweries Take Home Awards

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some of the best beers in the country, can be found right here in the Twin Cities. Three metro area breweries took home medals from the 2013 Great American Beer Festival.

The winning beers from Minneapolis-St. Paul and their categories were:

-- Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery's Twisted Trace (wood- and barrel-aged strong beer)
-- Summit Brewing Company's True Brit IPA (extra special bitter)
-- Surly Brewing Company's Pentagram (wood- and barrel-aged sour beer)

All three beers took home medals.

Also, Fitger's Brewhouse in Duluth won an award in the American-style sour ale category with their Fitger's Framboise.

And August Schell Brewing Company in New Ulm was cited in the American-style amber lager category for their Oktoberfest brew.

The local brews were selected out of nearly 750 breweries from across the country.

The event was held in Denver.
