Police: 2 Juveniles Arrested For Theft & Possibly Creating An Explosive Device
ELK RIVER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Elk River police have arrested two juveniles after they believe the duo was involved in burglary, theft and even possibly creating a homemade explosive device.
According to sheriff Joel Brott, investigators observed one juvenile leave the residence in a car, which was later determined to be stolen.
Elk River police received a call just a short time later that the two juveniles were switching license plates with a different car in Elk River. Elk River officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a chase ensued. The vehicle was then stopped, without injuries, and a loaded handgun was found inside.
After the juveniles admitted to being involved in additional crimes, police searched their residences. In one of the homes, deputies located what appeared to be a homemade explosive device.
The Minneapolis Police Department Bomb Squad was called to the scene to deal with the device. The juveniles are being held pending arraignment.
