Water Service Restored After Mpls. Water Main Break

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Several residents of a downtown Minneapolis apartment complex had an unexpected wake up call.

A water main at 7th and Portland broke around 3 a.m. Sunday morning. It sent water into some units in the Sexton building.

Emily Miller woke up to a soggy floor, but then a wall collapsed sending a few feet of water into her apartment.

"It was terrifying," she said. "We sleep in the basement and I was, of course, asleep. We have a small dog who sleeps on the bed so we had to go back for her. It was a little Titanic-y, not going to lie."

A city representative said crews isolated the break and turned off the water, and two buildings were without water service.

Crews began digging Sunday morning and reached the break in the 12-inch water. The repairs were finished and water service restored at around 6 p.m.

There is still no word yet on the cause.
