Curiocity: Mpls. Izzy's Ice Cream Shop Ready For Grand Opening

Ice cream enthusiasts, rejoice! It's time to celebrate another delicious destination to get a scoop of one of Minnesota's tastiest treats.

Izzy's Ice Cream Cafe and Kitchen will celebrate a grand opening celebration on Nov. 9 at its brand new location in the Mill District, on the corner of 2nd Street South and 11th Avenue.

Located across from Gold Medal Park and a short jaunt from The Guthrie Theater, the 5,100-square-foot building features cafe tables with window views, treetop vistas and a sneak-peek into the magical ice cream-making process.

Though it's been open since late July, the public is invited to kick off Izzy's official grand opening with a number of free activities for all ages next Saturday.

From noon until 2 p.m., kids can get their face painted, enjoy caramel apples, cider and win prizes. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., visitors will have a chance to check out the kitchen and taste the many ingredients used in Izzy's every day products.

Some of the local ingredients include cardamom toast from Woullet Bakery, milk from Sassy Cow Creamery and key lime pie from Birchwood Cafe.

For those wanting an additional experience, special tours for adults, including ice cream tastings, will be offered for a $20 ticket. A limited number of tickets are available on their website.

Izzy's first location, on Marshall Avenue in St. Paul, will continue operations as usual.
