Michigan Legislator Says His Wolf Story Was Untrue
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A legislator has taken to the Michigan Senate floor to apologize for putting false information about the sighting of wolves outside a day care center in his resolution urging Congress to strip gray wolves of endangered species protections.
Escanaba Republican Sen. Tom Casperson acknowledged Thursday his 2011 resolution included fiction.
An Ironwood woman says she saw one wolf on her lawn in 2010 while children were inside. She says she screamed and it fled.
Casperson's resolution said "wolves appeared multiple times" in a day care center's backyard shortly after children played outside.
It said federal agents killed three wolves in the backyard.
MLive.com says no children were in the backyard that day, and three wolves were shot seven months later about ¾ miles away.
