Sheriff: Man Survives Being Shot In Neck While Hunting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 32-year-old Foley man is lucky to be alive after he was shot in the neck on accident while hunting on Wednesday in Benton County, authorities said.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office was called at about 1:50 p.m. on a report of a hunting accident. A man, identified by authorities as Daniel Szcech, was taken to a hospital by family after being hit in the neck by a bullet that ricocheted. Authorities learned at the hospital that he was hunting with his brother in Alberta Township when the accident happened.

Szcech and his brother were walking parallel about 40 yards apart when the brother fired at a deer, missed and the bullet hit a hard object. A fragment of the bullet ricocheted back at Szcech, hitting him the neck. He suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

He was treated at a hospital and released.
