Anxious Buyers Camp Out For Cities 97 Sampler CD

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This holiday season, you can help Minnesota charities while enjoying music from some of the industry's most popular names.

A local staple of the holidays for several years has been the release of the Cities 97 Sampler CD. It went on sale at Twin Cities Target Stores Thursday morning, and it had people camping out overnight to get their hands on one.

The artists for Volume 25 include Amos Lee, Phillip Phillips and Kerry Noble, who joined the WCCO This Morning show live with anxious customers. Noble, who hosts the Cities 97 morning show, also has a song on the CD.

She's been a musician her entire adult life and has previously been featured on Volume 15 of the Cities 97 Sampler. It's a double disc set this year, with 100 percent of the proceeds from sales going to local charities.

The sampler costs $32.97 this year.

"It's an incredible legacy that Cities 97 has been able to create with Minnesota charities," Noble said. "It's an incredible thing for everyone and it feels so good to be able to give back."

There are only 40,000 copies of the Cities 97 Sampler available at local Target Stores, and they sell out quickly. The hope is to raise $1 million locally for charities. That would equal more than $11 million raised over the years from sales of album.
