MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 35-year-old man died Thursday near St. Cloud after his SUV went through a stop sign and was broadsided by on-coming traffic, the State Patrol said.

The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 10 and County Road 33 in Benton County. The chain of events was not entirely clear, but the State Patrol said a Ford Escape SUV ran a stop sign on southbound Highway 10 and collided with another SUV before coming to a stop and being broadsided by a Mercury Cougar .

The driver of the Escape, Ahmed Abdulle of Waite Park, Minn., died. His passenger, 33-year-old Hussein Sabriye, also of Waite Park, suffered no apparent injuries.

The driver of the Cougar, 20-year-old Eric Shelley of Onamia, Minn., suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated at St. Cloud Hospital, the patrol said.

The driver of the other SUV, 55-year-old Hope Morrison of Rice, Minn., also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at St. Cloud Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
