Armed Robbery Reported Near University Village

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Another armed robbery has been reported at the University of Minnesota, this time near the University Village.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the bus stop in front of University Village on University Avenue between 25th Avenue and 26th Avenue SE.

The victim, who is not affiliated with the university, told police he was waiting at the bus stop when two suspects came up to him and asked for the time. One suspect then displayed a handgun, demanded his belongings and punched the victim in the face.

The victim told police they took his wallet, cell phone and backpack, then ran southbound along 25th Avenue and turned eastbound on Delaware Street.

Police searched the area for the two suspects but didn't find them.

The victim was not seriously injured in the robbery.

The suspect that displayed the gun is described as a black man, between 25 and 30 years old with medium complexion and about 6-feet-tall with a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a black and grey jacket and a black stocking cap.

The second suspect is described as a black man, between 22 and 25 years old, with a medium complexion, about 5-feet-10-inches tall with a skinny build. He was last seen wearing a red, green and orange multi-colored jacket and a black stocking cap.

Minneapolis Police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Tip Line at 612-692-8477. The case number is MP-13-398336.
