Authorities ID Man Killed In Shakopee Accident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a 48-year-old Shakopee man died Friday when his car lost control on an icy highway and plunged over the Bloomington Ferry Bridge, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities said the crash likely happened Friday in the early-morning hours, but was reported at about 8:25 a.m. when the man was found in his car by a passer-by. The State Patrol said the driver was heading southbound on Highway 169 when he lost control near Highway 101, hit a guard rail and went over it. The vehicle likely plunged about 40 to 50 feet over the Bloomington Ferry Bridge and landed on its roof, killing the driver.

The State Patrol identified the victim Saturday morning as Steven C. Whiting. The Scott County Sheriff's Office and Shakopee Police assisted the State Patrol with the crash investigation.
