Patrol: 1 Killed, 1 Injured In Central Minn. Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 23-year-old Nisswa man died Friday morning after the car he was in veered to avoid stalled traffic and collided with an on-coming van, the State Patrol says.

The crashed happened just before 11 a.m. on Highway 10 near Royalton, about 80 miles northwest of the Twin Cities.

Lucas Johnson died, the State Patrol says.

He was the passenger in a Chevy Impala driven by 20-year-old Cody Husemoller, of Duluth.

The two were traveling northbound on Highway 10 when the Impala swerved to avoid stopped traffic and slid into the on-coming lane. A Ford van, driven by 36-year-old Scott Geiger of Sartell, broadsided them.

Husemoller suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Geiger didn't appear to suffer any, the patrol says.

The road was wet at the time of the crash.
