How To Get Organized In Your Bedroom

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The home organization series this week "New Year, New You" continues Thursday. and we're taking you into the bedroom.

It's not like that, we're getting organized. From the messes on the floors to our disastrous closet, Jason DeRusha let a professional organizer come to his home to find the tricks to fixing up yours. Organization expert Diana Allard took a visit to see what needs work.

Allard owns Efficient Spaces Organizing Services in Plymouth. She suggests having a plan, like commit to not leaving your clothes on the floor.

Jason has a lot of watches, so Allard said there should be a place for everything and to make sure everything is in its place.

After looking at his closet, Allard saw mostly wire hangers for Jason's clothes. She recommends all plastic or all wood. Allard said if you want to get organized, start by taking an inventory.

"Pull out every single thing you have. You'd be surprised about shoes you wear so rarely you're ready to part with them," Allard said.

She said donate and purge the stuff you don't need. Then organize.

There's also a strategy when it comes to organizing your closet. Allard said when you buy something new, take something out. Buy one, then donate two. She stressed that it doesn't have to be perfect. Organizing is supposed to alleviate stress, not create more stress.
