Sheriff: 2 Dead In Renville County Rollover Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two men were killed Friday in a one-vehicle rollover crash west of the Twin Cities, according to the Renville County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 3:15 p.m. Friday on County Road 16 about two miles north of County Road 11 in Osceola Township, which is 11 miles northwest of Hector. When authorities arrived, they learned a 2001 Dodge Caravan had been heading northbound on County Road 16 when it hit a patch of ice and lost control.

The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled multiple times. Two people who were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident were ejected from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a third passenger were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Renville County Sheriff's Office said the four men were all co-workers and were headed home to Willmar from work at the time off the accident. Authorities said the driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and it's not clear if the other passenger was. The driver and third passenger were released from a hospital Friday.

The victims have been identified as 31-year-old Jose Lopez Deleon and 23-year-old Julio A. Giron, both of Willmar. The Renville County Sheriff's Office said what led up to the accident is still under investigation.
