DOJ Will Review Superior Arrest

SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice will review accusations of excessive force during a police officer's arrest in Superior.

Officer George Gothner has been on paid administrative leave since he was seen on dash cam video punching a woman in the face during the arrest.

The video shows Gothner struggling with Natasha Lancour as he tried to arrest her outside the Keyport Lounge Jan. 5. Gother says Lancour was resisting and was scratching him in the face. Lancour is charged in Douglas County with battery of an officer and disorderly conduct.

She says she was doing nothing wrong when Gother approached her and cursed.

WDIO-TV reports Superior Police Chief Charles LaGesse says it would be in the best interest of everyone for the state to oversee the investigation.
