Police Search For Suspect After Woman Shot In Leg In North St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are searching for a shooting suspect in North St. Paul, after a woman was shot in the leg after a possible domestic disturbance.

Authorities were dispatched around 4:40 a.m. Sunday to the area of 12th Avenue and McKnight Road regarding a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, police found a woman at the scene with a single gunshot wound to the leg. She was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

East Metro Swat was deployed to the scene for assistance.

"This is not a standoff," said Capt. Dustin Nikituk of the North St. Paul Police Department.

Authorities continue to search for the female shooter. They're focusing their efforts on an apartment building. As authorities search each unit nearby, apartment buildings have been evacuated. The Salvation Army is helping the residents forced out of their homes.

"Any time you have shots fired and somebody is in the area with a gun, that's concerning. However, it appears to be an isolated incident," said Capt. Nikituk.

Police have not said how the two women know each other.

The North St. Paul Police Department continues to investigate the shooting. Anyone with additional information regarding this case is asked to call 651-767-0648.
