Minnesotans Eager For A Real Taste Of Spring

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It has been 166 days since we've seen temperatures in the 60s.

With a little luck, Sunday could be the day this streak of cold weather ends. Friends Matt Sandstrom and Brandon Parker are like most Minnesotans, who've felt holed up indoors for too long.

"Long, long time," Sandstrom said. "Get to finally enjoy outside, outdoors."

The duo couldn't wait to sit outside the Dunn Brothers on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis.

"Finally getting a taste of spring," Parker said.

With the sun on their faces, they've believe the time has come to ditch the coats, gloves and hats and embrace short sleeves and sunglasses.

"Looking forward to Sunday being in the 50s," Parker said. "Just enjoying a little piece of it now."

Others are celebrating the anticipated spring-like weather by getting the car prepped for a showing in the sun.

The line at Avalanche Car Wash on West Broadway Avenue reached the street. This flood of customers has been a long-time coming for this north Minneapolis business, according to employee Tony Powell.

"We see a lot of salt basically under the undercarriage of the car," Powell said.

Washing away winter is what these guys are all about, and the forecast has them preparing for longer lines this weekend.

"I hope it be real nice so we can really get some business," he said.

Sunday will be good for business here and good for the minds of Minnesotans, who've been itching to get outdoors.

"I'm probably going to go out and skateboard, get some exercise," Sandstrom said.
