Joan Mondale's Love Of Art To Live On At Macalester

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – When her husband served as vice president of the United States, she became known as "Joan of Art" for her work supporting fine arts around the world.

Joan Mondale passed away in February at the age of 83. But her name lives on in an expanded art building at Macalester College in St. Paul.

Her father served as chaplain at the college and she graduated in 1952. Walter Mondale says his wife's deep love of art started at Macalester.

"She was inspired to work, to shape her artistic skills, and she was touched by the love and magic of a life of artistry," he said.

The building will be known as the Joan Adams Mondale Hall of Studio Art.
