Minnesota House Passes Synthetic Drugs Bill

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A measure aimed at synthetic drugs appears to be cruising toward final passage in the Legislature.

The House on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill that bans inhaled or ingested drugs that aren't approved by the FDA and that cause an effect like the most dangerous drugs including heroin and LSD.

The proposal also gives the state Board of Pharmacy the power to stop stores found selling such drugs. A person convicted of selling synthetics would have to pay restitution.

It's the product of a conference committee and goes now to the Senate. If they pass it and Gov. Mark Dayton signs it, it would take effect Aug. 1.
