Man Charged In Head-On Crash That Killed 2

WALKER, Minn. (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a 27-year-old man with causing a head-on crash that killed two people in northern Minnesota while he was driving drunk.

Cass County Attorney Christopher Strandlie says Michael James Stangel faces eight counts of criminal vehicular homicide.

According to the complaint, Stangel was driving a Chevy Tahoe last Saturday night when he crashed into an oncoming Kia Spectra.

The two people in the Spectra, 47-year-old Lisa Collins and 46-year-old Tim Collins, both of Cass Lake, were killed. Stangel and his passenger suffered serious injuries.

Blood drawn from Stangel at the hospital showed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.33 percent, more than four times Minnesota's legal limit.

Bail for Stangel is set at $750,000 without conditions. It's unknown if a public defender has been appointed for him yet.
