Train Hits Juvenile In North Metro

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A child suffered broken bones Thursday after being hit by a slow-moving freight train while playing on the tracks, officials say.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. near Main Street and 65th in Fridley.

An Anoka County dispatcher said the child's injuries included broken bones, but were not life-threatening.

Metro Transit said several Northstar Commuter trains were delayed as a result. The first afternoon trip was cancelled altogether and passengers were transported by bus.
