State Patrol: 7-Year-Old Bicyclist Hit, Killed In Milaca

MILACA, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol says a 7-year-old girl riding her bike on a Mille Lacs County road was killed by a motorist Tuesday night.

Authorities say the Milaca girl was biking on County Road 8 about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday in the City of Pease when she was hit in the westbound lane.

The State Patrol identifies the girl as Alyssa Grimm. She was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center where she later died. The driver of the vehicle that struck her and a passenger were not hurt.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office says a 2008 Saturn Outlook being driven by 29-year-old Ryan Schipper was heading west out of the City of Pease on 105th Street when he saw three children on bicycles heading westbound on 105th Street. One of the children was in the eastbound lane heading west, and turned in front of the vehicle at the last second.

The child and the vehicle collided. The passenger in the car, identified as 28-year-old Robin Schipper, immediately called 911. Preliminary tests did not show that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The accident is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol with assistance from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office.
