Man Has Second Thoughts On Illegal Weapons Plea

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A man convicted for a drive-by shooting in Moorhead, Minn., nearly 15 years ago had second thoughts at a change of plea hearing in North Dakota on illegal weapons charges.

Richard Carillo is charged in federal court with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of an unregistered firearm. Authorities say he was in possession of a sawed-off shotgun.

Carillo appeared in court Wednesday for a change of plea hearing, but told a judge he wanted to talk to his family before making a decision. He is scheduled for trial on Aug. 19.

Carillo has several felony convictions, including one for shooting at a group of people in Moorhead's Romkey Park in 1999. Authorities say the shooting was gang-related.
