ORR, Minn. (AP) — A 72-year-old man is in critical condition after he was found unresponsive in a swampy area in northern Minnesota.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says authorities got a call to check on the man in rural Orr after he hadn’t been heard from for about two days.

A neighbor found the man on Friday morning in a swampy area. He was found lying in the muddy swamp, near an all-terrain vehicle. Authorities believe the man may have been injured when he was riding an ATV and struck a stump.

Officials say rescue efforts were hampered because the location was so remote, wet and swampy. The man was pulled from the area by medical officials, then flown to St. Marys Essentia.
