Fairmont Man Turns 100, Reveals Secret To Staying Young
By Ashley Hanley, CBS News
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Herbie Haertel of Fairmont, Minn. celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday.
"I was born July 26, 1914," Haertel said.
He served our country during World War II, and recently received a special letter from President Obama.
And as he reaches this special milestone, he's got a special secret – exercise!
After 10 pushups, he's just getting warmed up.
"Things to do, things to do to keep you going," he said.
It's all part of a workout routine this 112-pound frame does at Goldfinch Assisted Living on a weekly basis.
"Just because I want to keep going," Haertel laughed.
Going and going, to stay forever young.
