Local Car Company Debuts Newest Vehicle, The Slingshot

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Minnesota company is making a world debut for its newest vehicle.

Polaris has a new spin on the motorcycle and it's probably unlike anything you've seen before.

It's called the Slingshot and it's on debut at the Minneapolis Convention Center. It's got two wheels in the front, one in the back; and you need a motorcycle license to drive it.

It won't hit dealer floors until October.

Polaris dealers and their families from around the world marveled at the Convention Center Monday. Twelve-year-old Cole Focht was there with his grandmother, he posed for a photo in the driver's seat.

"If I could have it one day I would," Focht said.

"It's not a car, it's not a motorcycle. It's something in between, but it's awesome," Jose Alaya, a Polaris dealer in Paraguay, said.

"It's a 360 degree rush of sight sound and smell, that's how we describe it." Chris Doucet, the Commercial Director at Polaris Industries, said.

Doucet says they're not going public with the numbers on how fast it goes.

"Really, really crazy fast. Faster than anybody should want to go," Doucet said.

Numbers he will talk about is cost.

"We actually got a loud round of applause when we told them it was $19,999 so we know we hit the mark there," Doucet said.

Around $20,000 is the base price.

The vehicle sits 11 inches above the ground, there are no doors and two people can sit side by side in the unique vehicle.

If you want to go for a ride, call your local Polaris dealer and see if they will be selling the Slingshot.
