1 Dead In Polk County Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Wis. woman died Thursday evening after the car she was driving rolled into a ditch in Polk County, Wis.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's office, police responded to a call of a rollover crash a little after 8:30 p.m. on 70th Avenue just east of 150th Street in Garfield Township.

The caller told police that one person had been thrown from the car.

Upon their arrival, police found 27-year-old Jamie Lynn Martinson, of Amery, Wis., had been traveling westbound on 70th Avenue when she failed to follow the road as it curved and went off the road.

Police say Martinson then tried to follow the curve, but overcorrected and lost control of the car.

The car then rolled into a ditch just north of 70th Avenue.

Martinson was ejected from the vehicle.

Police said they attempted to revive Martinson, but were unsuccessful and she passed away at the scene.

There was one passenger in the car, 29-year-old Crystal M. Carlson, of Amery. Carlson sustained minor injuries, but did not require medical care at the scene.

According to police, Martinson was not wearing a seat belt. Speed and alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash.

The incident is currently being investigated.
