TCF Bank Stadium Trades Football In For Fùtbol

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – At TCF Bank Stadium Saturday they're playing soccer instead of football.

Soccer fans have been looking forward to this for months.

Back to back soccer matches first with the International Game, followed by the Minnesota United FC match.

Fans told WCCO they would like to see more soccer here like this in Minnesota.

The International match between Manchester City and Olympiacos sold around 30,000 tickets ahead of the match.

The Vikings hosted and promoted the event, which was sort of an audition as they are trying to bring a major league soccer franchise to the new stadium.

"I'm excited. I was not a soccer fan six years ago, but I love it. I watched almost all the matches, DVR'ed them during the World Cup. I'm into it," Ken Botzet, of Minneapolis, said.

WCCO heard a lot of fans say that this year's World Cup got them into soccer.

And the die-hard soccer fans WCCO talked to said whatever makes people watch they're happy about it.
