Chamber Backs McFadden As Groups Tune Into Race

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce promises "aggressive" spending to back Republican Senate candidate Mike McFadden's bid to unseat Sen. Al Franken.

Chamber political director Rob Engstrom says the Minnesota race is among the top 10 Senate priorities but wouldn't say how much the organization will spend there. The chamber endorsed McFadden on Monday.

Engstrom says the chamber spent more than $1 million backing former U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman's campaign in 2008.

Democratic-aligned groups haven't yet poured much money into Minnesota to defend Franken. But he was endorsed last week by Democracy for America, an active group founded by former presidential candidate and Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean.

Franken held a large cash advantage over McFadden heading into the primary, in which McFadden is favored over a few other Republicans.
