MCF-Oak Park Heights Inmate Pleads Guilty To Murdering Fellow Inmate

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An inmate at the Minnesota Correctional Facility – Oak Park Heights pleaded guilty to murdering a fellow inmate by strangulation in 2013, according to county officials.

According to County Attorney Pete Orput, Benjamin Beck, 30, pleaded guilty to second degree intentional murder in connection to 2013 death of inmate 30-year-old Shane Cooper.

The criminal complaint states that Beck went into Cooper's cell with a shoelace, came up behind Cooper and then wrapped the shoelace around Cooper's neck.

Beck received the maximum sentence of 40 years.

The sentence is to be served consecutively to any current prison sentence.
