Authorities: Woman Attacked Near Stevens Square Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis officials are alerting residents near Stevens Square Park after a woman was briefly assaulted early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 3:45 a.m., a woman who was outside near Stevens Square Park was drawn into a short conversation with a man. When she turned to leave, he touched her over her clothes, authorities said.

When she told him no, he backed off, but then approached her from behind and tried to get her on the ground. She struggled with him and was able to get him off of her. He then fled.

The victim suffered scrapes and bruises, but was otherwise uninjured.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black male in his late teens to early-20s with a medium build, 5-foot-9, medium complexion and short black hair. He was wearing a grey hoodie and light-colored, knee length shorts.

The Minneapolis Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit is investigating.
