MN's Young Golfers Drive, Chip, Putt For A Shot At The Masters

BLAINE, Minn. (WCCO) - The weather was perfect for the drive, chip and putt championship regional qualifier today.

Kids from Minnesota got the chance to compete at TPC Twin Cities for a shot at the Masters next year.

Kids competing get three puts, three chips and three drives to try and earn as many points as possible.

Regional champions in each of the boys and girls age divisions, based on their age, will advance to the finals.

Those will be held at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia the Sunday before the 2015 Masters tournament.

"Even if you're a non-golfer, you've heard about the Masters," said Bob Baldassari, the PGA's director of youth golf development, "and then these kids to putt on the 18th green is just unbelievable, that's really the excitement factor, that's the magical factor, that's like the Disney factor of golf."

PGA Minnesota says these type of events are a good way to get juniors interested and involved in golf.

Awards were also handed out to overall champions and for each individual skill champion as well.
