Human Remains Found In Burning Car Near Sleepy Eye

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities are investigating after human remains were found inside a burning vehicle, following a car crash in Sleepy Eye, Minn.

The Brown County Sheriff's Office and the Sleepy Eye Police Department responded to a car crash around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, approximately 3.5 miles south of Highway 4, near the Cottonwood River.

Fire crews also responded to the scene to extinguish a car fire that ignited following the accident. Once the fire was out, authorities discovered human remains inside.

According to a police report, an injured individual at the scene was taken to Sleepy Eye Medical Center and later transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Several agencies are investigating the incident. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the person's cause and manner of death. The victim's identity has not been released.
