MN Remembers Firefighters Who Died In Line Of Duty

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Minnesotans are coming together Sunday to remember firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

Firefighter Memorials are always a somber occasion.

Since 1881, 213 Minnesota firefighters have fallen in the line of duty.

Their names are inscribed on columns throughout the memorial, on the south side of the State Capitol grounds, where Sunday's service is being held.

Gov. Mark Dayton and Sen. Al Franken, and about 1,000 others are expected to attend.

Roll call starts at noon with the service at 2 p.m.

This year's service will honor Fire Chief Matthew Frantz, of Rice Lake, who died last year from an apparent heart attack while responding to a call.

The service will also honor four newly discovered deaths from as far back as 1913.
