5 Charged In Killing Of 20-Year-Old In Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) — Five people have been charged in the killing of a 20-year-old man during an attempted robbery in Superior.

Chance Andrews, 17, is accused of shooting Garth Velin on Tuesday evening, according to WDIO-TV. Andrews faces a felony murder charge.

The others — Kyham Dunn, Teah Phillips, and brothers Kane and Dallas Robinson — are charged with being accomplices to felony murder. They range in age from 17 to 20.

The charges occurred Thursday and Friday.

A criminal complaint says Phillips told police the group traveled from Duluth to Superior on Tuesday and that Andrews told her they were going to get some money.

Once they reached Velin's home, Phillips knocked on the door and said she was looking for a lost dog, according to the complaint.

According to WDIO, police said Velin's picture was pulled up on Facebook to confirm he was the one who answered the door.

The complaint says Andrews, Dunn and Dallas Robinson left the car to go to Velin's house. Phillips told investigators the three young men returned a short time later and said "it went bad." She said Andrews claimed he pulled a gun on Velin and that Velin grabbed it and it accidentally went off, according to the complaint.

Online court records don't list attorneys for any of the suspects. Phillips and the Robinsons are scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Andrews and Phillips are from Superior. Dunn and the Robinsons are from Duluth, Minnesota.

Police said there was evidence of illegal drug activity, according to KBJR-TV.
