Visits To The Apostle Islands' Ice Caves May Cost You
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The ice caves in Lake Superior's Apostle Islands were a huge tourist hit last winter.
They were so popular that the National Park Service is talking about charging a fee.
About 138,000 people visited the amazing scene last winter. Park officials say because of the national attention, they're expecting more people coming to get a look.
To help pay for extra staffing and facilities, the park is proposing a $5 fee for visitors 12 and older.
There will be open house meetings next week in Bayfield and Ashland to discuss the proposal.
