With School Out, Students Sleep Outside To Fight Homelessness

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- With school out for MEA, hundreds of students will spend the night outside, raising awareness for homelessness.

They will be taking part in Cardboard Box City at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Each person who participates will raise at least $42 -- the cost of sheltering one child for a day.

Last year, nearly $20,000 was raised.

Figures from Wilder Research show nearly 4,000 children go homeless with their parents on any given night in Minnesota.

And more than half of those children are 5 years old or younger.
