Pedestrian Killed By Northstar Commuter Train In Elk River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man was struck and killed by a Northstar Commuter Rail Line train in Elk River Wednesday evening.

Metro Transit officials say the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when a man was walking near the tracks in a non-designated crossing area. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Passengers aboard the train were transferred to the fifth, and final, outbound Northstar trip, and the Northstar Link commuter bus was held at the Big Lake Station to serve late-arriving passengers.

No other injuries were reported. Metro Transit Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
