MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A new Twin Cities restaurant is nearly ready to take diners to new heights.
“Betty Danger’s Country Club” in northeast Minneapolis is hard to miss, especially with the 60-foot Ferris wheel out front.
With mini-golf, tacos and beer, this new joint from the owner of Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lounge calls itself a “country club on crack.”
But there is no shortage of ways to describe this new restaurant.
“It’s a preppy disaster of the economic apocalypse,” Shannon Weed, Director of Communications for the restaurants, said. “Betty is one of the siblings of our make-believe dysfunctional family.”
And the ‘Ferris Wheel’ catching everyone’s attention, is not actually a Ferris Wheel.
Weed called it an “art installation of a mechanical tree.”
“Like a country club offers tip-top dining, Betty is offering you tree-top dining,” Weed said. “Dine, drink and danger. And perch yourself in the mechanical tree with a bird’s eye view of all Minneapolis’ gorgeous surroundings.”
You’ll need a reservation for this tree-top experience, but don’t expect a carnival ride.
“The wheel is not intended to be a ride, per se,” Weed said. “It’s going to be more what you’re used to when you see the horizontally revolving patios moving relatively slowly so you can enjoy your dining experience. This is just flipped on its axis. It’s a vertically revolving patio.”
Weed is not quite ready to reveal exactly how the operation will work, but said there will be different ways to experience the vertical dining adventure.
“You’ll learn all of that when you come and visit for the first time,” Weed said. “This is a brand new concept, so it’s been a lot of discussion and developing the best way to make it work.”
Set to open in late November, Weed said the wheel will rotate through the winter.
“This is a year round restaurant,” Weed said. “As long as the wheel can move, it will be moving.”
Betty Danger’s Country Club is still hiring and will be looking for even more employees once the busy season begins in April.
