Gophers' Boyd Gets 1st Star Of Week After Sweep Of Bemidji State

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – University of Minnesota men's hockey senior Travis Boyd was honored by the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday after the Gophers swept Bemidji State in their first home series of the season.

Boyd was named the league's First Star of the Week after collecting four points over the two games in the series. Minnesota won Friday night 5-2 and completed the sweep Saturday with a 5-3 victory. Boyd scored three goals on the weekend, including the eventual game-winners of both games.

He also had an assist and was one of four Gophers to record four points on the weekend. Boyd scored both a power-play and a short-handed goal in Friday night's win, making him the first Gopher to do so since 2010. It was also his first career multi-goal game.

Boyd has 60 points in 120 career games. The Gophers (4-0-0) remained the unanimous No. 1-ranked team in the country in this week's poll. They face rival St. Cloud State in a home-and-home series this weekend, with Friday night's game in St. Cloud and Saturday's at 4 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.
