Candidates Press Hard For Votes As End Nears

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The grueling fall campaign is nearing the finish line, with candidates searching for the votes that might make the difference between euphoria and despair Tuesday night.

Republican governor hopeful Jeff Johnson says he's confident he'll overtake Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton. He spent his final day greeting transit commuters and going table-to-table at restaurants.

In an interview with KBBM radio of Stillwater, Johnson defended a full-page ad the state Republican Party ran in newspapers statewide on Sunday that said Dayton can't be trusted to protect Minnesota from Ebola.

Dayton has convened frequent meetings with public health officials, hospital leaders and others who would be on the front lines of any Ebola defense.

Dayton's final-day schedule had him joining a Democratic Party bus tour and appearing at two rallies.
