GOP's Paulsen Re-Elected To Congress In Suburbs

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Republican U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen has won a fourth term representing Minnesota's west suburban 3rd District.

Paulsen defeated Democratic candidate Sharon Sund, a Plymouth businesswoman and former Hennepin County DFL chairwoman who was making her second try for Congress.

Paulsen sits on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. Before being elected to Congress in 2008, he was a state representative from Eden Prairie and served as Minnesota House majority leader from 2003 to 2007.

The 3rd District includes many Minneapolis suburbs. Republicans have held the seat for decades, but the district narrowly voted for President Barack Obama in 2012.
