Gophers Hockey Earns Weekend Sweep Of Notre Dame

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After a 5-0 win Friday night, the No. 1-ranked University of Minnesota men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Notre Dame Sunday with a 4-2 win at Mariucci Arena.

The Gophers (7-1-0) scored three first-period goals in the win. They also extended their home winning streak, the longest currently in college hockey, to 17 games. Minnesota got on the board less than a minute into the game with a goal from Sam Warning on assists from Justin Kloos and Taylor Cammarata.

About six minutes later, Hudson Fasching scored a power-play goal with assists from Cammarata and Mike Reilly to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead. Reilly scored on a tip-in later in the first period on a power play to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead after the first period.

After recording a shut out Friday night, Adam Wilcox made 21 saves Sunday in getting the win for the Gophers.

Minnesota continues non-conference action this weekend with a home-and-home series against Minnesota-Duluth. The Gophers will host the Bulldogs Friday night and travel to Duluth Saturday.
