MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities in Big Lake say a 25-year-old man was arrested last week for malicious punishment of a child under the age of four.

Big Lake Police interviewed the suspect, identified as Akinmusayo Akinde, after authorities received a report of child maltreatment. Police received information that the child had sustained injuries while in Akinde’s care.

Authorities said the child had multiple injuries that were discovered during the initial report. Akinde admitted to police that he used a belt to discipline the child, under the age of 4, hitting the child multiple times.

Akinde was taken into custody and booked into the Sherburne County Jail. He was charged with felony malicious punishment of a child and felony third-degree assault of a victim under four.
