Ty Hoffman Trial Set To Begin Next February

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- The man who is accused of killing his former boyfriend and business partner in an Arden Hills gas station parking lot last summer will stand trial in February.

Attorneys failed to reach a plea deal for Lyle "Ty" Hoffman on Monday. Hoffman appeared in Ramsey County court Monday on one count of second-degree intentional murder.

Hoffman, 44, is accused of fatally shooting 48-year-old Kelly Phillips at a gas station on Aug. 11. He became the subject of a month-long manhunt following Phillips' death.

Hoffman eluded police for a month before being arrested Sept. 11 after a tipster spotted him outside a fast-food restaurant in Shakopee.

Phillips was an attorney and vice president of Boston Scientific.

On Monday, the judge said attorneys had failed to reach a "resolution," or plea deal, in the case.

Hoffman's trial is set for Feb. 17. Attorneys declined to answer questions after the hearing.
