Vikings' Johnson 'Passes' With Flying Colors
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings are not just playing Miami and playing out a season. It's an audition for some to stay on the roster.
Charles Johnson has come from nowhere to "pass" with flying colors, maybe because he thinks he should.
Johnson has been working, waiting and anticipating his shot.
"I'm always comfortable, man. I believe in my work ethic. I believe I'm gonna work hard to get to where I want to be," Johnson said.
Part of it is the chemistry he has developed with the quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. He has a theory on that.
"I run and get open, he throws it," Johnson said. "He played at Kentucky, I'm from Kentucky."
Maybe it's that he is hungry, coming from a Division Two program. That's the theory of another division two receiver that's made it with the Vikings -- Adam Thielen.
"Division Two football and the kind of players that are at that level … you always get good guys, good character guys," Thielen said. "Charles, he's a hard-working kid and it's just kind of the D2 mindset."
Or maybe it's that he's not intimidated by the bright lights, because he always believed he belongs.
"It's something that I always expected," Johnson said. "I knew I could play this game and I knew what I could do in the NFL. So, I mean, it was just [being] given the opportunity and taking advantage of it."
And that's what keeps Charles Johnson going -- that he expects it.
"I mean, going through anything in life, you got to expect that you're gonna do something if you wanna do it," he said.
The Vikings head to Miami to face the Dolphins Sunday at noon.
