MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The warmer weather has delayed the opening of some local ice rinks.
The city of Minneapolis says workers need 10 consecutive days of temperatures below 20 degrees to create and open rinks.
This year, they’re behind schedule, and the park board hopes to have some open by the end of the month.
Once it’s cold enough, they expect to have 47 ice rinks and 23 pond rinks open.
Skating at Holidazzle
One place you can skate this weekend is downtown Minneapolis.
Holidazzle Village put up an outdoor rink on Nicollet Mall between 10th and 11th streets.
Since it is warmer, they’re using synthetic ice, but you can use regular skates on it.
You can bring your own or rent a pair for free with the exchange of your license.
The rink is open until 9 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
