MNsure CEO Talks Enrollment Ahead Of Looming Deadline

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The deadline to sign up for health insurance through MNsure is just around the corner.

The cut-off for the state's health exchange is noon on Wednesday. Officials extended the deadline twice in order to get as many people as possible to sign up.

As of writing, 60,000 people have enrolled through MNsure, according to CEO Scott Leitz. Some 27, 000 of those people have enrolled in commercial plans.

"We're very pleased with where we are at," Leitz said, talking about the number. "We know there's going to be another surge as we come into [Dec.] 30th and the 31st."

He added that the extensions had nothing to do with glitches or problems.

Earlier this year, some consumers experienced hiccups with the MNsure system. Leitz said that MNsure is aware of the issues and has reached out to those affected.

"Fortunately, we know what the issues are this year," he said. "And we know how to deal with them."

Last year, glitches made the MNsure rollout a disaster.

This year, only a small number of consumers are experiencing issues, Leitz said.

What if you can't make the Wednesday deadline?

If that's the case, open enrollment is still possible through Feb. 15, 2015, for coverage that starts later.
