Beloved Fmr. WCCO Radio Personality Joyce Lamont Dies At Age 98

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- WCCO Radio personalities and fans alike are mourning the loss of former broadcaster Joyce Lamont, who died Sunday at the age of 98.

When Lamont first started working at WCCO Radio in 1950, she wasn't allowed to say her name at on the air. But later she became so beloved that she got about 10,000 letters a month from her audience.

Former colleague Charlie Boone recalled Lamont's personality.

"She was warm and wonderful. She was a lovely person. She had great taste. She loved all things oriental. She travelled a great deal and had great taste when it came to furnishings," Boone said.

Lamont eventually became the voice of "Dayton's Musical Chimes" and other programs, sharing news, music, recipes, community events, and travel notes with the radio audience -- becoming one of the best loved personalities on the most successful station in the region.
