Downey Seeks Re-Election As Minnesota GOP Chairman

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Keith Downey says he plans to run for re-election as chairman of the Republican Party of Minnesota.

Republicans took control of the Minnesota House under Downey's watch after years of financial struggles but were unable to capitalize on the national GOP resurgence elsewhere. Democrats swept the races for statewide office, easily re-electing Gov. Mark Dayton and returning Al Franken to the U.S. Senate.

Downey completes his current two-year term in April. He's seeking his second term.

The Minnesota GOP central committee will elect the next chairman at its spring meeting April 11.

Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party chairman Ken Martin is also seeking re-election. He's seeking his third two-year term.
